Chhath puja is celebrated on the sixth day of the Hindu calendar month Kartika. This is a very famous event in north India especially in the states of Uttar Pradesh, Nepal and Bihar. The entire duration of the Chhath puja spans over four days. The main theme of the event is to worship Sun god and win his blessings.

Chhath also known as Surya Shashti is an eminent Hindu festival majorly in Bihar and other parts of India dedicated to Sun God, Surya, the god of energy. When is ‘2018 Chhath Puja’ is in 13th November. Sun God(source of energy) worshiped to promote well-being, prosperity and progress.. Chhath puja is conducted on this day for the welfare of friends and family members. It’s a four days festival during which devotees give up water, keep fast, stand in water for long and also go for holy bathing. On the first day of the puja — Nahay Khay, devotees take a dip, preferably in the Kosi river, Karnali and Ganga, and carry home the holy water to prepare the offerings. On Kharna, the devotees observe a fast for the whole day, which ends in the evening a little after sunset. After worshipping the Sun and the Moon, they prepare offerings of kheer, bananas and rotis for their family. After consuming the offering, they fast for 36 hours without water.
